About Me
Over the past few years I have begun to read more and more on diet, health and fitness, and look after myself. In early 2002 I weighed around 200 pounds, with a BMI of 29. I had a gut and was out of shape. I didn’t have any significant health issues, and wanted to avoid them. Here are my diet and lifestyle changes since then.
Physically:
- Run, doing some 10 KM races and two half marathons. Haven’t run much since 2008.
- Cycle up to 20 KM per day, rain or shine.
- Yoga, with Rodney Yee and Kate Potter videos, various books, and now take a class.
- Core body exercises under the guidance of my Chiropractor, Rob Hasegawa.
- Combination core exercises and yoga for 20-90 minutes each morning, and 10-40 minutes each evening.
Diet and Nutrition:
- Eliminated junk food except for movie theater popcorn, my decadent indulgence.
- Avoid processed foods as much as possible: refined sugar, rice, pasta, and most wheat.
- Eliminated alcohol and had my last drink on October 13, 2009.
- Adopted a mainly raw food diet, about 80% is raw, mainly vegetables. The rest is cooked, and includes fish, eggs and free range meats.
- Consume a home-made organic vegetable, fruit and nut smoothie, which is full of vitamins and nutrients.
- Have been reducing natural sources of fructose in my diet since April 2010.
Now I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in. My diet and exercise lifestyle should be easy to maintain. My current weight is 165 pounds with a BMI of 24. This is ideal considering I inherited a large barrel-like chest from my ancestors.
